Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology)

This course will provide a sequence of study in the core topics and foundational studies of psychology sufficient to meet the accreditation standards of the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council. As such, the course provides the undergraduate sequence in psychology that is a prerequisite for 4th year studies and eventual registration with state Psychologist Registration Boards.

Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary)

The Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary) course aims to prepare specialist secondary school educators who are critically reflective professional practitioners, knowledgeable in their specialist content area and who are able to operate effectively in a variety of secondary educational contexts in which they find themselves.

Admission criteria

Admission to the program will be through UAC and VTAC systems. Some students may be admitted through the Koori Admission program and the Principal's Early Recommendation Scheme.

NSW Institute of Teachers is the accrediting body for teacher education programs in NSW. In order to satisfy entry requirements, students are required to have NSW HSC English minimum Band 4 (Standard, English as a Second Language or Advanced). Where an applicant does not meet this entry requirement, CSU will provide concurrent study in English prior to graduation.

Credit

Students entering the course with Higher School Certificate minimum Band 4 in English Advanced, Standard English or English as a Second Language will be given credit for LIT101 .

Graduation requirements*

To graduate students must satisfactorily complete 264 credit points (33 subjects). Upon completion of the double degree program, students graduate with two separate awards, the Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology) and the Bachelor of Teaching (Secondary).

Professional recognition

Accredited by the Australian Psychological Society and currently being prepared for consideration by NSW Institute of Teachers. Formal accreditation is s expected in 2010.

Course structure

The course consists of 20 subjects from the discipline field and a major of 12 education subjects, including 2 curriculum studies subjects and 1 compulsory subject.

The core of Education subjects will be organised as follows:

1. Education Studies - 7 subjects

3. Professional Experience - 2 subjects
4. Option - 1 subject
5. Compuslory - 1 subject

In the discipline subject strand, the students complete 13 psychology subjects and 7 professional discipline subjects. Of the remaining 12 subjects there is one restricted elective space in the English strand only.
